On Valentines Day don't let your heart rule your head and get duped by bogus charity collectors - that is the message from Basildon Council.
The council gets reports around Valentine's Day of people selling roses and claiming the proceeds go to charity, but it has never issued a licence to a rose seller.
According to the council, people should always check for an official badge or licence before handing over any cash. If you are still concerned about anyone collecting money call your local police station or contact the council's licensing team on 01268 294424 or 294428 or 294436.
