Brentwood returned to winning form on Saturday determined to maintain their promotion challenge with a decisive victory over Sudbury.

The deadlock was broken early in the First half from a short corner strike by Simon Wagstaff, and a second goal soon followed following a good passing move which set up Matthew D'Arcy-Smith at the far post.

Ian Forbes made a rare appearance on the score sheet after he had played a neat one-two with D'Arcy-Smith before placing the ball in the net.

The fourth goal before half-time started with a long ball out of defence from Stuart Piper which found Darren Leppard who quickly moved the ball on to Scott Reilly whose powerful shot flew past the goakeeper.

Keeping their foot on the pedal, Brentwood continued to score goals. Firstly Jon D'Arcy's short corner shot was deflected high into the top right hand corner of the net by a defender's stick.

Then Ian Forbes netted his second goal as the Sudbury defenders appeared to tire.

Returning from injury, Jamie Agate reacted quickly to a rebound from the goalkeeper and lifted the ball into the net with aplomb.

Nick Hull then displayed some great skill to round his defender before scoring the eighth and final goal of the match.

Continued success for Brentwood second team means they are still within touch of the league leaders Ipswich & East Suffolk.

Steven Miller's reverse stick shot was flying wide of the post before Ian Anderson's deflection directed the ball through the goalkeeper's legs.

The home team pressed for an equaliser but were met with a stalwart defence led by Arthur Pelling and Gordon Wilson.

Both sides earned themselves a number of short corners but neither managed to capitalise.

Brentwood went close to scoring their second goal when a goalmouth scramble firstly saw Simon Cottingham's effort saved by the keeper and then Grant Peters hit the post.

Brentwood's dominance in the second half was reflected when Man of the match Ian Anderson's short corner hit the net.

Mike Huckerby sealed the match through a well-worked short corner routine.
