Chelmsford AC athletes have also been preparing for the summer events by competing in various indoor competitions.

In the Crystal Palace Grand Prix, Ewan Graham won the Under 17 Mens High Jump with 1.80 metres.

At the same event Catherine Howe won the Under 17 Womens High Jump with a jump of 1.65 metres which equalled her personal best.

Howe also competed at the South of England Championships at Bedford and came away with the silver medal clearing 1.63 metres.

All augers well for the English Schools Championships this year for Catherine who could be a potential medal prospect.

Both athletes are coached by Stuart Ohrland at Melbourne Park Athletics Centre who competed at the AAA's Indoor Championships recently.

Despite a below par performance, reigning high jump Champion Ohrland still won a bronze medal at Birmingham.

Local athlete Julie Pratt competed at the Birmingham Games and won the 60m Hurdles in a personal best time of 8.35 seconds.

Pratt's main target this year is the Under 23 European Championships where she is looking to take her second major title on the back of her World Junior success in 1998.

All of these athletes will undoubtedly improve on their success when the new Indoor Athletics Training Centre opens early next year at Melbourne Park Athletics Centre in Chelmsford.
