Forrester Park Golf Club Ladies Section played the fifth round of their 12 hole winter league this week.

The top scores of the day were returned by Eileen Bolton and Jan Price with 20 points and Barbara Luxford was close behind with 19 points.

At the moment Doreen Mortlock is leading the competition with an aggregate of 77 points, followed by Maggie Laws with 70 points.

With only two more rounds left to play, fellow competitors will have to play well to catch them.

The Veterans managed to avoid the rain on Wednesday and played their monthly stableford in muddy conditions.

In spite of this, the scoring was good with Richard Chard leading the way in the Silver Division with 42 points, followed by Gordon McLeay on 41 points and Brian Pryke in third place, after countback with 38 points.

The Gold Division winner was George Poulter, (40 points), who beat Colin Wood on countback. Bill Easton was third with 39 points.

Braintree Golf Club Ladies Section had 21 pairs play in the second of the Winter League fixtures in the form of a 4 Ball Betterball Stableford competition.

Battling against heavy frost and fog, the winners were Anne Sheppard (23 handicap) and Ann Anderson (19 hcp) with a total of 25 points over nine holes.

38 ladies then played in a 10 or 18 hole non-qualifying stableford competition played off 7/8ths of handicap. The winner over 18 holes was Mary Goodwin (12 hcp) with a credible 35 points,and first over 10 holes with 20 points was Margaret Chopping (23 hcp) and second was Helen Hart (24).
