Witham recorded an excellent win at Spa Road on Tuesday, and the victory moved them further towards the leading pack in Division Three.

A downpour about an hour before kick off time made the pitch very wet, but the referee decided to play the game, and although it made it difficult for flowing football, the pitch held up well.

Witham introduced Scott White as goalkeeper as regular custodian Chris Kriehn is on the injured list, and White had an excellent game, making some good saves and dealing confidently with high crosses.

Tring goalkeeper Simon Bartley made an excellent stop to deny Glen Driver in the third minute and then at the other end, White made a high class double save from Kinsley to prevent Tring from taking the lead.

Witham went ahead in the 36th minute when the ball got stuck in the mud near the penalty spot and Driver managed to get the ball under control before beating Bartley with a superb opportunist strike.

Witham went further ahead when Simon Gray was put through and he fired a shot past Bartley, to complete the scoring and a fine victory for Tony Kinsella's side.

On Saturday, Witham are scheduled to play Hornchurch in a Ryman League match, but Hornchurch may be involved in an FA Vase tie.

If Hornchurch were successful, then their match at Witham would be postponed, (FA Vase ties take precedence over league matches), but there will still be a match at Spa Road (weather permitting), as Witham will host Flackwell Heath in a league match, if the Hornchurch game is postponed.

At Witham Town's AGM last week, David Knott was elected as the new club chairman, and David Puttock as vice chairman.

On target: Glen Driver netted Witham Town's first goal against Tring Town on Tuesday.

Braintree Town were hoping to play a Ryman League Division One fixture against Walton & Hersham at Cressing Road on Tuesday, but the referee deemed the pitch to be unfit, so the game was postponed.

Braintree are on their travels on Saturday, when they play Bognor Regis Town in a Ryman League match.

Heybridge Swifts were without a match at the weekend, and Tuesday's Essex Senior Cup tie against Tiptree United at Scraley Road was another victim of a waterlogged pitch.

Swifts will be hoping to return to action on Saturday, when they have a Ryman League Premier Division 'Essex Derby' at Canvey Island.
