Police in Ongar have launched a new scheme aimed at providing reassurance for anyone living alone who suffers a medical emergency.
Known as Message in a Bottle, the scheme is the result of a partnership between Neighbourhood Watch and Essex County Council.
It is designed to provide emergency services with the medical history and contact details of people afflicted by a sudden illness or accident.
Pc Chris Caten said: "Details are stored in a plastic container in your fridge. Two special stickers known to the emergency services are put up on the outside of your fridge door and the other on a wall inside your front door."
Bottles and stickers are available from PC Chris Caten on 01277 362013.
