Southend was victorious on Friday after a £5.4million Euro cash injection was finally agreed.
Civic chiefs had waited at least 18 months for definite news of the European Union's Objective Two funding which will change the face of Southend.
It means the £17m Southend Seafront, High Street and Pier Enhancement (SSHAPE) project can now finally go ahead, with the help of private investment and Southend Council.
Planned projects include:
High Street kiosks to create a thriving European street setting
High-tech video screen information points
A heritage trail from St Mary's Church, Prittlewell, to the pier
Water features or sculptures in public areas
Extended cycle paths.
Council leader Charles Latham said: "I am delighted Southend has been successful with its bid.
"The town will be transformed into a vibrant, better and more pleasant urban environment as the SSHAPE project will change the face of the town."
