Colchester United manager Steve Whitton has confirmed the U's will be hosting attractive pre-season friendlies against Charlton Athletic, Norwich City and Wimbledon.

Premiership Charlton, captained by former U's favourite Mark Kinsella will be coming to Layer Road on Saturday, July 21, kick-off 3pm.

East Anglian rivals Norwich are the visitors on Wednesday, July 25, kick-off 7.45pm, while the Canaries' First Division colleagues Wimbledon provide the opposition on Saturday, August 4, kick-off 3pm.

Other opponents include Richard Wilkins's Bury Town (a) on Saturday, July 14; Braintree (a) on Tuesday July 17; Heybridge Swifts (a) on Saturday, July 28 and Dagenham and Redbridge (a) on Tuesday, July 31.

The U's are also hoping to fix up another home game with Harlow on Monday, August 6, just five days before the League season starts.

Bob Curry, captain of the U's 1948 FA Cup giant-killing side and skipper when the club joined the Football League in 1950 has died at his Halstead home. He was 83.
