A 27-year-old woman had to be raced to a London hospital by air ambulance after the car in which she was a passenger was involved in a collision with a van at an Aveley road junction.
The accident occurred at around 1.30pm on Saturday when a white Renault master van, travelling along Sandy Lane towards London was in collision with a blue Ford Fiesta travelling on New Road towards Grays.
The 45-year-old Pitsea driver of the van suffered minor injuries and was taken to Basildon hospital.
The Fiesta contained a family from Stratford, London - a 35-year-old male driver, the female passenger and her two children, a seven-year-old boy and a five-year-old daughter.
The woman - whose name has not been released by police - sustained serious injuries and had to be airlifted to a London hospital.
