An entire family travelling on the A13 in Basildon had to be taken to hospital after their vehicle careered off the road, crashed through a barrier and ended up in a field.
Traffic police believe the Ford Mondeo, which was on the road between the Five Bells roundabout and the Manor Way intersection of Stanford-le-Hope, had tried to move into the outside lane when the accident occurred.
A spokesman for Essex Police said the car went down the nearside embankment, through a boundary and came to a rest in a field.
