More than 60 organisations and firms took part in Colchester Signpost's third biennial conference.

Signpost, the town's resource centre for the unemployed, hosted the conference at its headquarters at the Wilson Marriage Centre.

The day-long conference - Bridging the Gap Between Employers and People Looking for Work - homed in on changing patterns of work and employment, ensuring the workforce had the right skills, long term unemployed, socially excluded groups and taking on staff in small businesses.

Speakers included Mary Frank, Signpost chairman, Chris Proffitt, conference chairman and chairman of Colchester Economic Forum, Bob Baggalley, chief executive of Colchester Business and Enterprise Agency (COLBEA), Brian Archer, chief executive of Essex Small Business Service and Tim Lacey, Reed International.
