The season reached the halfway stage on Saturday and High Roding maintained their lead at the top with their seventh win of the summer.

They made 286 for five at Hatfield Peverel who had no answer to Danny Rowe who hit an unbeaten 133, Barry Claydon added 45 and J. Clark 46, while Craig Spooner returned three for 73.

Hatfield had a good go at Roding's total, Stuart Hills (73) and Tim Phillips (60) in particular pushing the score on but they finished 48 runs short on 238 for nine.

Great Waltham maintained their challenge as Sam Dix hit 16 fours in an innings of 88 and shared in a first wicket stand of 114.

Bentley finally bowled Waltham out for 248, G. Hammond claiming six for 61 and Hickson three for 38. In the reply, Redman scored 43 and Hickson 34 but the innings finished on 203-9, Martin Eaton (4-68) and Mark Chapman (3-34) were the pick of the bowlers.

Despite an early wicket Paul Gravatt (51) and Steve Dunmow (46) added 92 for the second to lay the foundations for a big score for Aythorpe Roding.

The highlight of the innings though was Neil Culleton's 49 not out in just seven overs as Aythorpe reached 276 for seven.

Mick Cranley hit 62 in the South Woodham Ferrers reply but he lacked any support and the visitors were bowled out for 150. Culleton finished a good day by taking three for 42.

Springfield totalled 277 for six at home to South Weald. Scott Ellis top scored with 96 and Jimmy Symonds added 76, while Chris Gray took six for 56.

South Weald made 228 for seven in reply, Richard Ankers scoring 72 and Scott Ellis claiming five for 46 in 12 overs.

At Tillingham, the home side were bowled out for 141 by Little Waltham who won by seven wickets with a reply of 142 for three.

Division One

OLD Chelmsfordians have been on a good run of late and saved their best performance of the summer to send leaders Pegasus & Corringham to their first defeat.

Francis (65) and Jenkins (37) added 99 together but the top side were held to 197 for seven, Mark Whickham taking four for 50.

The Old Boys got the runs comfortably, reaching 200 for two with five overs to spare. Houvala made 47 and Willie Alderton saw them home with an unbeaten 86.

Great Burstead took the opportunity to go top as they met bottom of the table side High Easter. Hall top scored with 63 and Ely scored an unbeaten 30 in Burstead's 200 for four, M. Bentley taking three for 34 from eight overs.

Easter were then bowled out for 157, only Chester (37) and Meekens (30) showing any defiance. Burstead now lead by eight points and have suffered just one defeat this summer.

At Eves Corner, Danbury totalled 245 for six, James Banfield (70), Tristram Webb (57) and J. Thompson (32no) all in the round.

Great Baddow got the runs for the loss of four wickets, openers Wyatt scoring 79 and Nuttall 50 while Elmore saw them home with an undefeated 38.

Ingatestone made 249 for eight against Galleywood with Michael Warren hitting 101, supported by Gavin Todd (38).

Galleywood put up a disappointing response and were bowled out for 160. Steve Dupree top scored with 31 and Todd took an impressive six for 48.

Stock were dismissed for 126, Frost (46no) top scoring and Spinks claiming an impressive six for 30. There were 50's for Cook and Hughes as Writtle reached 127 for four for a six wicket victory.
