A salvage expert from Brightlingsea is today (Wednesday) heading for the icy waters of the Barents Sea to help recover a world-famous Russian wreck.
The Russian nuclear submarine Kursk sank there in August last year, killing its crew of 106. Failed attempts to rescue the doomed sailors made news across the world.
Mark Girdlestone, who runs his own diving firm in Brightlingsea, will be one of ten British divers taking part in the salvage operation to bring the sub back to the surface.
