A car sharing scheme aimed at cutting commuter traffic has been launched under a project supported by Essex County Council, Chelmsford Borough Council, and local businesses.

The Chelmsford Travel Share scheme, designed and run by Chelmsford Environmental Partnership, helps find the right person to share with.

Registered participants have free access to a database of people who want to share their journeys. Once a match is made individuals can get in touch wth each other to plan their own travel arrangements. All personal details held on the database remain stricty confidential.

Travel Share co-ordinator Adrian Summons said, "The Chelmsford Travel Share scheme cuts out much of the hassle that is usually involved in finding someone to share the journey, and it's easy to register to participate.

"Car sharing is a simple way to get to work more easily, with the added benefits of saving money and reducing traffic congestion."

Information is accessible on the website at www.i-travelshare.com or a leaflet may be requested by ringing 01245 268782.
