West Chelmsford MP Simon Burns has become a founder sponsoring member of the All Party Parliamentary Hospice Group.
A fervent supporter of the hospice movement, Mr Burns said he was delighted to have been asked to become a member of the new group.
"Chelmsford has a marvellous hospice at Farleigh and local people have the benefit of the services of two children's hospices, based in the south of the county and Cambridge," he said.
"I have for a long time been a great supporter and shown interest in the fantastic work that the hospice movement does in mid-Essex and the rest of the country.
"There is a major role to play in promoting the cause and interests of the hospice movement in Parliament and one of the most effective ways is through the All Party Group and I am delighted to be able to play a role in establishing this important committee."
