A date has finally been set for inner city youngsters to enjoy a fun-packed day out in Southend.

The London Taxi Drivers' Rally for Under-Privileged Children, which has been visiting Southend for the past 18 years, was jeopardised after it emerged the Cliffs Pavilion was unable to host this year's event.

However, Brian Houssart, chairman of the Southend Taxi Drivers Foundation for Underprivileged Children, said the event will definitely take place on July 10.

Mr Houssart, who is also a Leigh town councillor, works closely with London cabbies to co-ordinate the event, in which 450 youngsters are brought to the seaside for a day of fun.
