Union leaders have been seeking assurances about jobs as shares in Essex company Marconi were suspended today (Wednesday) following a multi-million pound sell-off of its medical systems business.
The communications company's medical systems unit was bought by Philips for £782m but the share suspension has hightened fears about job losses.

It also has a site in Crompton Close, Basildon.
Board executives are meeting this afternoon and are due to release a trading statement late today (Wednesday).
A spokeswoman for Marconi said she could not comment on any impact on jobs and said the reason for the meeting was to ensure shareholders were given the full picture.
