Residents in a Colchester road are appealing for a clean-up in a lane near their homes.
They claim the condition of Land Lane, off East Hill, is deteriorating daily with obscene graffiti and dumped rubbish rapidly making it an eyesore.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said she and neighbours were disgusted with the lane.
"There are bottles, burger baskets, other rubbish dumped down there and the graffiti on the walls is disgusting. I think if it was cleaned up that would make people leave it alone but because it looks filthy they are encouraged to keep making it worse."
She said many of the elderly residents did not want to walk down the lane, which has few homes but is often used to get through the Riverside estate behind.
A spokesman for Colchester Council said it was not clear who owned the lane but officers would be looking into whether there was anything they could do to get involved in clearing up the road.
