Premiership side Charlton Athletic are set to pay FA Umbro Trophy winners Canvey Island a tremendous compliment by sending down a squad containing six players with first team experience for tonight's (Wednesday's) Park Lane friendly.

Best known among the travelling party are striker Clive Mendonca and former England international John Salako, while the visiting 15 squad also contains Shaun Bartlett, scorer of BBC TV's Match of the Day "goal of the season" last term.

Greg Shields, Kevin Lisbie and Paul Konchesky are the other Charlton players involved with senior appearances and Gulls' boss Jeff King admitted to being "delighted" with the strength of the squad coming down from The Valley.

He said: "It will ensure that we have another very good work-out in our build-up to the new Ryman League Premier season following Saturday''s Essex Senior Cup final with Dagenham.

"It will be nice for local fans to see players of the quality of Mendonca and Salako in action - and I'm sure that plenty of them have already been planning to come along anyway to see our new striker signing Paul Cobb play his first game."

Cobb and ex West Ham striker Lee Boylan will both definitely taste some action for Gulls and a big crowd is expected for the 7.45pm kick-off.

Charlton squad: Roberts, Shields, Shittu, Fortune, Konchesky, Lisbie, Salako, Collis, Ricketts, Mendonca, Bartlett, McCafferty, Brennan, Debolla, Nugent.
