Champagne corks were popping after two holes in one were scored during Thorpe Hall Golf Club's Captain's Mixed Foursomes.

Wendy Jones holed out on the 111-yard 13th and Pat Elmore repeated the feat on the 165-yard 16th.

To celebrate and to start the evening's activities in style, Wendy and Pat organised a champagne reception.

Wendy and Chris Jones went on to win the first prize in the main event with a creditable score of 42 points.

In second with 41 points were Sandra and Peter Goy, with joint third (39) going to Pauline Ashley and Roy Warrington and Wendy Welton and Howard Johnston.

In joint fourth place (38) were Renate and John Jarvis and Barbara and Chris Ridgwell.

Meanwhile, a four-day Cadet Masters handicap event was the start of a very intensive period of competition for the Cadets at Thorpe Hall.

In first place on 9 under par was Mark Talbott, closely followed by Martin Blake (6 under) and Andrew Ferguson (level).
