Police praised the quick actions of a landowner and court officials after a large band of travellers were evicted from an industrial estate in less than 24 hours.

Around 15 caravans and 15 other vehicles set up camp outside a unit owned by Rochford Mouldings on Purdey's Way industrial estate in Sutton Road, Rochford.

Owners applied to Southend County Court for an immediate eviction notice because of fears the travellers could get into the unit, where they might injure themselves.

The notice was served last Friday morning and when police visited the site that evening the travellers had already started to move off.

Insp John Walker, at Rochford police station, said: " It was served so quickly because of health and safety reasons."
