Southend sprinter Sarah Wilhelmy finds out today (Thursday) whether or not she has been selected to run in the women's 4 x 100m relay here in Edmonton.

The 21-year-old was originally chosen alongside seven other athletes from whom four will eventually be selected to run in Saturday's heat.

"I'd love to be selected," said Wilhelmy. I'd love to get a run, I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed."

Wilhelmy, who will be told individually if she has made the final quartet, has been encouraged by a recent upturn in form.

"Training's been going well. I hadn't done much training before I got out here because I was ill before the trials," she said.

Former Southend High pupil Wilhelmy continued: "I'm feeling much better now and getting back to how I was running at the beginning of the season."

Wilhelmy ran in the relay at last summer's Olympic Games and admits Edmonton has a tough act to follow.

"Nothing can come close to Sydney," she said. "I was scared stepping out on the track there, especially in the relay because it's not just yourself you're running for - there's three other people in the team.

"But I think if we run well here and the changeovers go smoothly we can make the final and then with relays, anything can happen."
