A woman died when her van was in collision with a car in Dovercourt.
Valerie Upson, 57, of Main Road, Dovercourt, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident in Fronks Road last night (Wednesday).
Emergency services, including four fire engines, were called to the scene near the junction with Highfield Avenue at 8.35pm.
The woman's Bedford van had collided with a Ford Mondeo driven by a 21-year-old Dovercourt man.
The driver and a male passenger sustained slight injuries.
Police arrested the male driver at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was taken to hospital for treatment and later released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Traffic diversions were set up on Main Road and Highfield Avenue while police accident investigators examined the scene.
