Canvey Island athlete Dean Macey has taken bronze in the decathlon at the IAAF World Championships in Edmonton.
The 23-year-old fought off a groin injury to stay in contention with the Czech Republic's Tomas Dvorak after holding a slender one point lead by the end of Monday's events.
Tomas Dvorak took the gold and silver went to Erki Nool.
Macey managed a personal best of 14.34sec in the 110 metre hurdles.
This added to his personal best in the high jump on Monday clearing 2.15 m and narrowly missing out at 2.18 m.
He also came close to his personal best in the discus with a third throw of 46.96 m.
During the pole vault Macey managed a jump of 4.70m but this was eclipsed by the Olympic champion Erki Nool with a jump of 5.40m.
But Macey was happy with his performance, telling reporters he had won his own personal gold in the event and gaining a personal best points total of 8,603.
