Keen gardeners are celebrating success after their hard work paid off in the annual Southend in Bloom competition.
Judges again had a hard time deciding the winners in a bumper crop of entries from residents, businesses and schools. In addition, an extra prize was also awarded for the best new entry.
This was a nominated category enabling the judges' attention to be drawn to a previously undiscovered garden.
Council horticultural officer Colin Anderson, who co-ordinated the contest, said: "The entries were of a consistently high standard, making the judges' decisions very difficult.
"The Southend in Bloom Action Committee congratulates all winners and runners up, and thanks all entrants."
Southend mayor Howard Briggs will present prizes on Thursday, September 13, at 6.30pm at the Priory museum in Priory Park.
