The sky is not the limit for fun-loving 93-year-old Frances Barnett.

The daredevil Colchester supergran has broken the age barrier again with a breathtaking flight over Essex in a light aircraft.

So far in her quest for thrills Mrs Barnett has driven a doubledecker bus and ridden pillion on a motorbike, but this latest adventure tops the lot.

The pensioner took to the skies with grandson Neil Spooner for an hour-long trip in the Cessna 172 plane yesterday (Wednesday).

As the pair flew over Colchester they were even able to spot Mrs Barnett's home at Worsnop House, Old Heath Road.

Mrs Barnett said: "It was fantastic. My grandson is wonderful. We were up for over an hour and went over Harwich and Felixstowe and Mersea.

"And we went over where I live and we spotted it. The visibility was marvellous. We were so lucky with the weather.

"I am so lucky to be doing things like this at my age."

The 93-year-old has a mix of the hi-tech and the traditional lined up on her wish list for future adventures.

She has not yet decided whether to take a high-speed helicopter ride or a leisurely jaunt in a horse and carriage.

But one thing the sprightly grandmother is sure about is her favourite read. "We love the Evening Gazette We have taken it from the very first edition," she said.
