Police have received information about a possible new sighting of missing East Tilbury teenager Danielle Jones.

The missing 15-year-old schoolgirl has not been seen since leaving for school at arounfd 8am on June 18. Police believe she has been abducted.

Today (Friday) an Essex Police spokesman revealed that a member of the public had called to say they had seen 'a girl answering Danielle's description' with a man in a blue Transit-style van later on the day of her disappearance.

The van, descibed as not quite navy-blue in colour, was spotted at about 10am on June 18 on London Road in Grays, near the junction of Parsonage Road. The vehicle was heading towards the Lakeside area of Thurrock.

The police spokesman said the man in the van was white, in his 30s, strongly-built, with neat short dark hair. Officers have appealed for him to come forward so they can eliminate him from their inquiries.

Det Supt Dick Madden said: "If this was Danielle, then this is a very significant sighting for us, as it is the first sighting of her after approximately 8am in East Tilbury."

Police appealed for members of the public in the Grays and Thurrock area on June 18 to think back and get in touch if they remembered anything they thought might be helpful to the investigation.
