Forrester Park Golf Club veterans and ladies played their annual match to decide the destination of the Ball and Chain Trophy for 2001.

The vets found the burden of 3/4 handicap too much and the ladies won convincingly.

There will no doubt be some pressure from the vets to change the rules for 2002.

After being defeated 7-1 in a friendly match at Harwich earlier in the year, the vets reversed the result when Harwich visited Forrester Park last week, so honours were even.

The Billy Palmer Trophy, for players with handicaps 24 and over, was won by Chris Morris with 44 points, which should ensure that he is ineligible for next year's competition.

Eric Barker beat Dale Rayner on countback for second place, both with 40 points.

The stableford for players under 24 handicap was won by John Stevens who, with 46 points, had four points to spare over the rest of the field.

Phil Ashenden was second with 42 points and Steve Clark beat Phil Lowndes and Steve Austwick on countback for third place, all with 41 points.
