Over 60s will now be able travel anywhere for £5 on the First Great Eastern network that stretches through East London, Essex and into Suffolk.
The specially priced 'travel anywhere for a day' tickets can be purchased until November 23. The offer will also allow them to take their grandchildren for just £1.
Peter Robinson, First Great Eastern's marketing manager, said: "We know that the over 60s are a very mobile and active group of people and we have encouraged them to get out and about for many years with products such as the Senior Citizen's Railcard. But this is the first ticket specifically aimed at generating travel to destinations on our network."
The offer will allow visits to London, shopping at Romford, Chelmsford and Colchester and trips to the coast to Southend, Clacton and Harwich.
