A second-half goal from livewire midfielder Kemal Izzet saw Colchester move into the second round of the LDV Vans Trophy at Swindon's expense.

The tie last night (Tuesday) also saw Joe Keith make an appearance as a substitute during the second half after the wingback agreed a new contract with the U's yesterday.

He repaid the manager's faith by providing the cross for Izzet to score the crucial goal on 49 minutes.

Find out more about Colchester United Dean Morgan had the chance to make it two, but his shot rebounded off the post and was cleared.

It wasn't all one way traffic though as Simon Brown was called on to provide an important save from Swindon's Guiliano Grazioli in the 55th minute.

But even the introduction of Neil Ruddock, who scored the only goal in the league tie between the sides earlier in the season, could not turn the match in Swindon's favour.
