ggggFirst phase of developmenA DETAILED plan showing the design of the first phase of the Maltings Lane housing development in Witham has been approved by Braintree district councillors.
At a meeting of Witham Area Committee, councillors approved the design which details what the estate, next to Holy Family Primary School, will look like.
The statement provides general details on the design of the scheme, including building layouts, density of housing, landscaping, cycle and access routes.
Maltings Lane has been earmarked for the development since 1987 and developers plan to build 800 homes on the site.
The five hectare phase one site will feature 101 houses with five sections of open space, and two estate roads with access to Maltings Lane.
Plans by Brentwood-based Countryside Residential Ltd for 48 detached, semi-detached and terraced houses on 5.3 acres of the site were also approved.
Concern had been raised by the owner of Jackson Farms, which lies next to the development on Maltings Lane, about separating the boundary between the site and his house.
The owner wanted the developer to continue an existing red brick boundary wall but members agreed on a wooden fencewhich would become the responsibility of the owners of the new houses, would be best because it would have less impact in the surrounding landscapingLast Updated on Fri 14 September 19101 at 15:0
