Youngsters got wise on the subject of owls when one came to their nursery.

Children at the Woodlands Lodge Nursery, Coach Road, Great Horkesley, learned all about the nocturnal bird of prey as part of a topic on night and day.

A tawny owl was brought to the nursery by the British Bird of Prey and Conservation Centre, and the children aged between two and five were able to ask questions about it.

A spokeswoman for the nursery said: "It was absolutely fantastic. The children have been learning all about the owl as part of our night and day topic.

"They asked questions on its eyes, its feathers and its colour.

"Being quite young I thought some of the children might be a bit scared, but they've absolutely loved it."
