Keys to a restored artisan's cottage in Maldon will be handed over on November 2.
The 1830s weather-boarded cottage at the rear of the High Street has been restored by the Mid Essex Historic Buildings Trust during the past six months.
It will be handed over to new owners Colne Housing Society. Trustee chairman, Patricia Herrmann said: "It's our ugly duckling story - an eyesore has been turned into a charming little home and we all feel it was worth the huge effort made by many devoted and hard-working people."
The trust is now looking for another derelict building in the Maldon, Braintree or Chelmsford districts that needs protection.
