Terry and Humphrey are enjoying a feast of new fresh grass - but their appetites have not won favour with everyone.

The sheep have been enjoying grazing among the gravestones in St Mary's churchyard, Little Bromley.

Now leaflets have gone out asking those living in the tiny hamlet between Great Bromley and Lawford what they feel about the situation.

Parish council chairman Peter Herring said: "Some are happy but most seem to be against it."

But the rector of Ardleigh with the Bromleys, the Rev Nicolas Spicer, explained the two sheep were helping to keep down the cost of grass-cutting.

Members of the parish council are to meet the rector at the weekend to talk over the issue.

"It was agreed it should be brought out into the open and we can talk it through," said Mr Spicer.

Although the 11th century church is only used about six times a year, burials still go ahead in the churchyard. The church was closed in 1988 but restored in 1994 after being adopted by the Church Commissioners.
