WORKERS at Marconi in Chelmsford were today due to find out if their jobs were safe
Union leaders were today meeting executives from the troubled telecommunications company to discuss the wave of redundancies announced by the company and to protest at the huge payoff to former chief executive Lord Simpson.
Two weeks ago Marconi, a former giant of British industry, announced 600 job cuts in the UK but refused to say which sites would be affected.
The London Stock Exchange this week dropped the struggling company from its FTSE index following the collapse of its share price.
Union officials said they would stress their disappointment at the way the current crisis had been handled.
Unions claim the company has rejected a large number of volunteers and say they fear compulsory redundancies
