SOMEWHERE in Laindon, there's a big black cat on the prowl and it's getting hungry.

The startling news comes after a motorist caught the creature in his headlights last Thursday as he drove along Mandeville Way in Laindon.

Richard Howarth, 32 and his 10-year-old daughter Kirsty Marks, from Peldon Pavement, off Whitmore Way in Basildon, were driving to the Tesco supermarket at 8pm when a rabbit raced across the road - followed by a large black cat.

Richard, a printworker, said: "It was definitely as big as an alsation, if not bigger. I've got two cats so I know what a cat looks like and how it moves. This was a cat and a big one. Kirsty was pretty upset about it chasing the rabbit, so I said no more about it.

"It was only on Saturday when I took the whole family to Colchester zoo and mentioned the big cat that my wife said call the police.
