CCTV cameras are to be introduced at rubbish tips to cut down on commercial dumping.

The move is one of a raft of new Essex County Council measures to clamp down on builders and other tradespeople using civic amenity sites.

New policies will come into force at the sites, including Castle Road in Rayleigh, Newlands on Canvey and Pitsea Hall Road, Pitsea, from November 1.

Southend Council-run sites such as Sutton Road and Two Tree Island, Leigh, will not be affected.

Under the changes:

Open-backed vehicles will be allowed into the sites, provided staff are satisfied they carry only household waste

Only single-axled unbraked trailers will be given access

Quantities of soil and hardcore will be restricted to two bags or 40 kilograms per day

CCTV will be introduced to monitor activities on site
