Wakering bounced back from Saturday's disappointing home stalemate against lowly Chertsey Town with a valuable 1-0 away win over Tilbury.

Young midfielder Dan Trenkel got the vital goal on 37 minutes to cap a hard-working display by the village side.

Alan Hull's men were generally on top but had a scare just before they scored when Rikki Burbridge powered a shot just over.

Wakering's goal came on 37 minutes when Mick Munro played a free-kick from his own half out wide to John Heffer, who ran the length of the pitch to get in a cross which Trenkel put past Mark Hardingham.

Rovers should have made it 2-0 on 51 minutes when skipper Danny Scopes somehow missed from a yard out after Graham Dorrell's free-kick.

Speedy striker Mark Hampshire also almost added to the Rovers tally when he was just wide on 53 minutes. He then went close with a volley on 77 minutes.

A minute before that, Tilbury had been reduced to ten men when Steve Jones went off injured ? they had already used all three of their substitutes.

Even so, they launched a late fightback and ex-Bowers man Kevin Mully blasted over a shot that, had it gone in, would have been an injustice to the Rovers display.

Wakering's attentions now turn to their FA Vase tie at home to Hoddesdon Town on Saturday.
