The movie title Chicken Run is set to take on a whole new meaning at Colchester High School.

Senior pupils at the Wellesley Road school are organising chicken races as part of a fundraising drive for the children's mobility charity Whizzkids.

The birds, including one called Goldie after the Chicken Run character, belong to year ten pupil Philip Marfleet.

He said: "We have built a track for them. It is only two metres long as chickens don't run very fast.

"When they come over the chalk line for the food at the end, it is quite funny, because some turn round and go back to the start."

Philip, 14, will be running today's event with his friend Duncan Howie, who helped raised £100 with chicken racing at the school summer fete.

Proceeds will go to the school's chosen charity, Whizzkids, which provides mobility equipment for disabled youngsters.
