Lifesaving equipment is on hand at a moment's notice inside a Shoebury store - which also has trained staff to use it.
The defibrilator equipment, which delivers lifesaving shocks in the event of a heart attack, will be stored at Asda in North Road.
Twelve staff have been trained to administer vital early treatment before medical teams can reach patients.
A store spokeswoman said: "We are very pleased to take possession of the this equipment, which we hope will mean we can save lives.
"We are also very proud of the staff who have worked so hard to learn lifesaving skills."
Graham Longley, started the charity Heartbeat during his time as mayor of Southend. Its aim is to save lives by having defibrilators placed around the town.
