League leaders Braintree Town face one of their toughest challenges so far this season when they visit third-placed Gravesend and Northfleet tomorrow (Saturday).

Both teams have proved to be a surprise package so far in the Ryman League with Canvey Island - many people's tip for promotion - sandwiched between them.

Braintree have had a week's rest after coming back from 2-0 down to beat Hampton and Richmond at Cressing Road last Saturday.

The result put them top of the table as many other high-flying Ryman League clubs - including Gravesend who beat Dartford 2-0 - had FA Cup commitments. Find out more about Braintree Town FC Saturday's journey also represents a nostalgic trip down memory lane for Braintree manager Ben Embery.

He captained the Stonebridge Road club in the mid-1970s - but hasn't been back for ten years.

He said: "It will be an emotional return for me but once the whistle blows it's down to business. I haven't been there in a while but I'll be back again in a month's time when we play Dartford.

"I enjoyed my time there and it's great to see them doing well this season. They're in the same boat as us because they've surprised a lot of people this season. So it will be an interesting yardstick when we play them.

"I'd be happy to come away with a point but you never know what this Braintree side are capable of."

Centre-half Dave Culverhouse is extremely doubtful with a knee injury. Andy Potter is set to be drafted into the side as a replacement.

Bradley Quinton also returns after being suspended for the Hampton game.
