Motorists have been using the area of grass in front of St Osyth Priory 'like a race track.'
Michael Talbot, St Osyth Parish Council chairman, said at a meeting on Thursday a letter had been received from the Priory about people damaging the piece of grass in front of the historic building.
He said: "People have been tearing around the front of The Priory and cars have been using it like a race track."
He also said that people had even camped on the grass.
He said the council would support the Priory by placing notices when repairs are being made to the damaged land.
