Staff at a Colchester jewellers foiled a gang of fraudsters trying to buy more than £2,000 worth of watches with a stolen credit card.
Two men and two women went into Upchurch and Son Jeweller, St Nicholas Passage, on Tuesday, and chose £2,100 worth of Omega watches.
But when they tried to pay with a credit card it came up as stolen. When they were challenged, the four made off without the card.
They are described as being "of Chinese appearance". The two women were smartly dressed wearing long, tight skirts and the two men were wearing light-colour leather jackets.
