Veteran midfielder Mitchell Springett has been released by Clacton Town.

Springett, last season's Jewson League player of the year, has struggled to get into the side recently and is seeking first-team football.

Seasiders boss Mick Potter said: "It's no use having a player of his quality on the bench but I couldn't guarantee him a first-team place long term.

"There's also the financial side because Mitchell was one of the big earners at the club.

"The fact a player of Mitchell's class can't get a game also shows the strength in depth we've got here.

"But he was terrific for us last year."

Springett, 38, is well-known in non-league circles and includes Heybridge Swifts, Wivenhoe and Chelmsford City on his list of former clubs.
