The headteacher of Jack Lobley Primary School in Tilbury has said she is "disappointed" at the decision to close the school.

Maureen Benson, head of the Leicester Road school, said in a statement: "I lead a very dedicated and hardworking team who are committed to the children at Jack Lobley school.

"We are extremely disappointed that the school has been earmarked for closure."

He statement continues: "We support the aim of creating the best possible learning environment for the children who attend the school.

"We want our children to succeed and acknowledge that there are many good things happening in the school - and that is recognised by the education authority and the parents.

"Right now I know that all of us, teachers, support staff, governors, parents, pupils and the education service will work together.

"We need to make sure the next phase in the school career of our young pupils is the best which can be provided."
