An elderly woman was subjected to a terrifying ordeal in her own home by a raider demanding money and drugs.

The pensioner was left shaken and upset by the intruder who made off with just £7 in cash.

The man called at the bungalow in High Oaks, Ramsey, at around midday yesterday and pushed his way into the woman's home.

At one stage he held his victim's hand while holding a poker-like weapon in the other hand.

Det Con Julie Bartlett said the object could have been a foil catering tray which had been rolled up and resembled a poker.

"The victim was not attacked but she was left very shaken," she said.

The woman did not need to go to hospital for treatment.

The attacker is described as white, aged between 20 to 25-years-old and of slim to medium build.

He wore a black woolly hat, a pea green jumper, blue jeans and trainers. He also had distinctive sunglasses which had vivid blue lenses.

Anyone with information is asked to call DC Bartlett at Harwich Police on 01255 241312 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
