Green locals could soon be using environmentally friendly rubbish bags -- which degrade leaving no waste.
Castle Point health and housing director Alan Longford is keen to look into using the bags to collect residents' green waste.
In a report to the environmental health committee, he said the new sacks would make collecting rubbish easier and help the environment.
He said: "Degradable sacks can be placed into the back of the freighter without emptying, so speeding up the operation and making it more environmentally sustainable."
The sacks themselves will be about a third more expensive than the bags which are currently handed out, but council officers are hoping to make savings on labour costs.
Mr Longford has also suggested going into partnership with the Canvey Marshes Trust to fund the scheme.
Members agreed Mr Longford should monitor the use of degradable bags and have further meetings with the Canvey Marshes Trust.
They also decided the director should have the authority to make a decision on whether the sacks should be introduced or not, after consulting with the committee's chairman Joe Cooke and vice-chairman George Wilson.
