Free parking on Thursday evenings and special rates on Sundays in the run up to Christmas have been announced by Chelmsford Borough Council.
On Thursday November 29, December 6, 13, and 20, free parking is available at the High Chelmer multi-storey and the Meadows retail park multi storey car parks for customers who enter after 6pm.
Normal tariff applies for those who enter before 6pm. The car parks close at 10.30pm.
The Meadows surface car park is free until 10.30pm: a £1 coin is needed to exit after 10.30pm.
On the next five Sundays until December 30, the same three car parks will be open from 9.30 am until 5pm at the Sunday charge of £1. A £1 coin is needed to exit the Meadows surface car park.
At all other times standard tariffs apply in all Chelmsford's 25 car parks. Times and tariffs revert to normal on January 2, 2002.
There are regular parking bulletins on 107.7 Chelmer fm at weekends.
