The long trip north proved worthwhile for Southend United, who have come away from Spotland with an invaluable away win.
A 6th minute strike from Broad was enough to seal the points for the Blues. The Essex side managed to hang on to their advantage for the rest of the game - even after goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan was sent off in the 82nd minute.
