Swimming toddlers at Thurrock Community Leisure's Blackshots Leisure Centre have topped the fund-raising table in Essex for a leading baby charity.

The tots took part in the splashathon for Tommy's in June, organised by swimming instructor Julie Baden, and raised a massive £1,531.

A total of 324 pools participated across the country, and Thurrock's youngsters not only raised the most money in the county but were also fifth highest in the UK.

The money will be used by the charity to fund research into miscarriage, premature birth and still birth.

Bobby Sahota, marketing manager for TCL, said: "We are really proud of this and would like to thank all the swimmers who took part and raised money for this worthwhile event.

"We hope to raise even more money in future years, and look forward to becoming the number one fundraiser for the charity in the UK."
